November 2024, Kuwait – Hunna Art is delighted to announce ‘So expansive, you and I become null,’ a solo exhibition by Palestinian-Jordanian artist Raya Kassisieh (b. 1991), curated by Nadine Khalil.
This exhibition marks Kassisieh’s debut with Hunna Art following the announcement of her representation by the gallery in November 2024. ‘So expansive, you and I become null’ will be followed by two additional solo exhibitions over the next three years, offering a sustained exploration of Kassisieh’s evolving practice in collaboration with esteemed curator Nadine Khalil.
Comprising works on paper, paintings and sculptures made from 2021 to 2024, the exhibition confronts memories, both embodied and collective -often delving into the artist's heritage through the lens of her grandmother’s photographic archive. Through her work Kassisieh evokes an understanding of the layers of grief and familial loss mixed with the beauty and intimacy of what remains.
Currently based between London and Amman, Kassisieh is a graduate of Pratt Institute (BFA, 2014) and holds an MA in Sculpture from the Royal College of Art (2024). Her work addresses the politics of the body, drawing on her Palestinian roots and upbringing in Amman, Jordan.
Raya Kassisieh’s process of making is central to her practice, where the act itself becomes a hidden performance that breathes life into her creations. Through a practice that melds drawing, painting, sculpting, welding, and draping, she uses the body as a tool for reimagination, articulating silent dialogues around autonomy, identity, and the renegotiation of being.
Curator Nadine Khalil, an independent art critic and curator based in Dubai, will curate this exhibition and the forthcoming series of Kassisieh’s solo exhibitions. Known for her focus on iterative exhibitions, Khalil’s curatorial lens treats the body as an expansive site for artist-centered narratives around performativity, technological embodiment, and eco-feminism. Her work with Hunna Art underscores the gallery's dedication to advancing meaningful artistic discourse.
With ‘So expansive, you and I become null,’ its second major solo exhibition since establishing its permanent space in Kuwait, Hunna Art reinforces its mission to foster critical engagement and support pioneering artistic experimentation that resonates in global cultural dialogues.
